Reindeer Run 5K & Kids K

Today was an exciting day in our house.  Thing 1 (3.5years) and Thing 2 (2 years) ran in their first kids k this morning!  It was truly a family event.

We had been talking to the boys about the race for weeks.  When we arrived at the race site, my husband, my mom (Ya Ya) and I went to pick up our race packets and make a pit stop.  When we returned to the car with the boys race bibs, Thing 1 immediately wanted to put his on.  Thing 2 wanted to attach his bib to his belly, not his shirt, but his belly, so we had a two year old tantrum.

We got out of the car and the boys went to play in the bounce houses.  As it was time to line up for the 5k, Thing 2 didn't want to get in the triple stroller, he was ready to run.  He took off weaving his way through the crowd with his race bib in hand.  He eventually decided that he wanted to stay at the race site, while Daddy, Ya Ya, and I (pushing the stroller) ran the race.

Race went well, it was crowded at the start especially with people walking (it was a family fun run).  It is hard for me to maneuver with my triple stopper that is as wide as a Mini Cooper. It did thin out at about 1.5 miles.

Daddy Cameron ran 25:30.  I ran 32:02 pushing the triple stroller with two kids and Ya Ya ran about 34:35.

Daddy Cameron, who has not run more than 2 miles in over 2 years has started to complain immediately after the race.  (Men. :))  If he would run a little more 3 miles would be easy peasey to him.

After the 5k was the kids k.  We had to drag Thing 2 out of the bounce house, so he wasn't as excited about running as he was when we arrived.  Thing 1 was super excited.

Ya Ya ran beside Thing 1, who ran the entire way.  Thing 2, was carried, then he did run with a big smile on his face, and then carried again.  He got upset when Thing 1 ran past him going the other direction on the out and back course.

At the finish line the boys received medals and Christmas ornaments.  They were both really excited.

On the way back to the car Thing 1 said, "I'm really tired" as he got into the car.  And while we were getting everything on the car, he told daddy, "I had to run slow 'cause I ran with Ya Ya and she is old."  Kids are so funny sometimes.

Both boys are looking forward to their next race!
