Moving

After much thought and consideration for what I have built here, I have decide to relocate my blog.

Several months ago I moved our family blog over to wordpress.com because, I was having a lot of trouble getting all my pictures to post.  There were way too many nights that I had to rewrite my posts because something would happen.  This blog is the only one of my blogs that is left on blogger.  However, after careful consideration and a desire to simplify and declutter my life, it would be much easier for me to have all my blogs in the same place.  Besides, I may eventually decide to self host my blogs.

I know that this can make thing a little more difficult for those of you who follow through blogger, but you can subscribe via email or any of the numerous readers that are available.  I hope you will join me.

Inspiration Wednesday

I haven't run today and I don't think that I will be able to.  We are going through some transitions at our house, so it has thrown things off.  I will be getting in an Exercise TV workout this evening however.  I have to keep up with my 30 day challenge, which is going well.  So here is a few inspirational quotes for this Wednesday.

"Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it."
-Oprah Winfrey

"Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves. It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go. It helps us to find out what we are made of. This is what we do. This is what it's all about."
-PattiSue Plumer, U.S. Olympian

"Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'"
- Peter Maher, Canadian marathon runner

"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
-
John Bingham, running speaker and writer

"You also need to look back, not just at the people who are running behind you but especially at those who don't run and never will... those who run but don't race...those who started training for a race but didn't carry through...those who got to the starting line but didn't in the finish line...those who once raced better than you but no longer run at all. You're still here. Take pride in wherever you finish. Look at all the people you've outlasted."
- Joe Henderson

Picking up the miles

With the Dallas RnR Half Marathon in 20 days, and basically being off 4 weeks, I really need to start getting a few more miles in or I might be crawling all the way to the finish line at RnR.

Don't worry, I'm not getting too crazy.  Instead of my usual 3 mile stroller pushing run around the 'hood, I made it 4 miles.  4.26 to be exact, well as exact as MapMyRun, since my Garmin is not working at all right now.  Thanks to my 2.5 year old wanting to go over the bridge and into the woods to see the cars on the big road, I was able to add an extra mile to my run.  It felt great.  However, I did get a little break half way through the run.  I had to stop and let Thing 2 try and potty.  Gotta love potty training.  I just wanted to make sure that he didn't potty in the stroller (I didn't want to have to clean that up.)  Despite the stop, he didn't potty.  He actually didn't potty until we got home and he was out of the stroller walking in the front yard a whole 46 minutes later.  That just tells me he is capable of holding it.  Now if I could only get him to go in the potty.

Anyway, back to running.  I actually felt really good on the run.  I am also starting to feel like I was before my 4 week hiatus.  Hopefully the weather will continue to cooperate so I can continue to get my run on this week (and continue to let Thing 2 run around in his underwear.)

Oh, I wasn't able to do a yoga video on Exercise TV last night.  I forgot about swimming lessons, which always makes for a much later night.  I am hoping to be able to do it tonight.   Hopefully I won't be too tired, since my boys are refusing to take naps today, thus not allowing me to get some things done.  Wish me luck!

Change of Plans

I had really hoped to keep my running streak alive, however, mother nature didn't agree with me.  Today is super windy, like 30 mph winds.  Not exactly conducive to pushing the 120 lbs. of jogging stroller, or at least not in a productive manner.  I mean, I could get out and try to push the boys, but I know I couldn't keep a good pace, and ultimately I would end up super frustrated.

So instead of that keeping me from doing anything (I have to get at least 30 minutes of something in for my 30 day challenge) I decided to try out some videos on Exercise TV.  Best decision ever.  I found a couple of different videos and did them while all of the kids were napping.  I feel so much better after doing them.  I was able to get my heart pumping, which I need a daily dose of.  My arms are weak, typing is a little interesting right now.  My legs felt the burn.  I feel refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the day.  I really want to get most of my blogging done while the kids are napping so I can do a yoga video tonight.  We will see how fast I can type.

Since Friday, I have done all of my runs and my workout today during the kids nap time.  What I have noticed that once I get moving, I don't feel like I need a nap anymore.  I feel refreshed and I am able to get things done now, so I don't have to stay up late to do them.  I only wish I had a treadmill to run on during this time (hint, hint.)

Anyway, I am off to be productive.  Enjoy the day!

6 Days...

After taking last week completely off, and running very little the three weeks before that, I am happy to report that I have had a great week.  I have actually run 6 days in a row.  Since Tuesday, when I started my 30 day challenge, I have ran 3 miles everyday, except for Saturday (I only ran 2 miles.)  It has felt great!

Don't get me wrong, this weeks return to running hasn't been easy.  My longest run this week has only been 3.4 miles.  I have run some of the slowest miles since the second week after Thing 3 was born.  My muscles are in a little bit of shock, but in a good way.  However, my 3 mile run today, I averaged 10:29 minute miles pushing the double stroller.

I am so thankful that I decided to take a break last week.  I feel like I have hit the reset button, not on just my running, but my eating habits.  I have been eating mainly fruits and vegetables and I have felt so much better for it. The boys and I ate spaghetti squash for the first time this week and we loved it.  Last night, however, I did eat pizza.  (We had several families over and pizza is cheap and easy.)  My body can tell I had that pizza, it felt like a brick in my stomach all night last night.  I was glad to be back to healthy eating againn today and I am excited to try some new recipes.

I am excited for the week ahead.  I feel great.  I haven't had to take a nap in the last 3 days, which is great and rare.  It means that my thyroid levels must finally be getting to the right place.  Also, I think the change in my diet has helped with my energy level.  Yay!

Bring on week 2 of my 30 day challenge!

My 30 Day Challenge to Myself

What I have discovered is that I tend to be an all or nothing kind of gal.  If I am going to do something, I tend to go all out or not at all.  It is no secret that I have been struggling with my weight.  Three kids in 3.5 years, nursing, thyroid disorder, and unhealthy eating habits have landed me at my current weight.

After reading some pretty inspiring blogs, I am finally, fully ready to get my act together and make a change.  So over the past 2 weeks I have spent less time on the computer and more time devising my plan.  I even typed out my plan and gave a copy to my husband, so that he is fully aware of what I am doing and what my intentions are.  Besides my reward will require some spending of some dollars.

Here is a copy of the page I have sent to him:

30 Day Healthy Eating Kickoff Challenge
Goal:  For me (and the boys) eat a healthier more natural diet.  Eating more fruits and veggies and little to no processed foods.  I want to make these healthy changes habits.
Reward: To be determined.
Start Date:  March 1, 2011                 End Date:  March 30, 2011

Rules:  Must do things in order to get my reward.
1.      Track every bite of food that is put into my mouth.  I will be using the BabyFit website, since I am still nursing.
2.      Must complete 30 minutes of some sort of cardio exercise daily.  It can be running, walking, jumping on the trampoline, something off of Exercise TV, etc.  Record on fitness page of BabyFit website.
3.      Weight training daily.  I will also record what exercises and the amounts I did in the notes section of on the BabyFit website.   The fitness tab.
4.      Ab exercises daily.  It can be at least 500 if I am counting or 20 minutes of a workout video. Record on the fitness page of BabyFit..
5.      Pushups.  At least 3 sets of 15 daily.  Record on fitness page of BabyFit
6.      At least 5 minutes of stretching daily.  Record on fitness page of BabyFit.

I bought a food scale so that I can learn what a portion looks like.  I have always had a portion control problem, so this is helping and eye opening.
My food choices have been much different.  The only processed anything I have had has been the whole wheat bread, Ritz crackers, animal crackers, and the snickers I had today (it was a present from my husband who forgot about my new plan.)  The first three days I didn't feel so great.  It was kind of like going through withdraw.  However, I felt great today.
The first 2 days, since I am aware that I will be recording what I am eating, I have actually ate less than recommended.   Yesterday I was perfect and today I went a bit over, but I was really hungry after spending 3 hours outside raking leaves and pulling up weeds and bushes.
I am really excited to see where this take me and my family.
I will have a more running related update tomorrow.

Sorry for the weird formatting.  I can't get it fixed and honestly, I don't want to take the time.  I am ready for bed.

Starting Over

Well, after one full week of running off, and three other really low mileage weeks, I got out today and went for a little run.  It was only 2 miles, pushing two boys, and it was disappointing.

I realize that I am basically starting over, which I remember saying not too long ago that I didn't want to do again.  Oops!  Not exactly what I want to be doing with the Rock'n'Roll Dallas Half Marathon at the end of the month.  I know that I will be ready on March 27, but I am going to have to work my booty off to get there.  However, I probably will not be going for a PR attempt like I had originally thought, oh well.

I am excited to finally have a race coming up on the calendar.  I am also really excited that the weather has been great lately.  I know that there will probably be at least one more cold snap, cause, well, there always is here in Texas, but otherwise the weather has been super spring like. Yay!

Today was the first day of a 30 Day Challenge, that I created for myself.  I will share more about it, hopefully tomorrow, however tonight I need to go make some baby food for Thing 3.

Yay for spring like weather!
