I am very prone to getting the winter blues. I need sunshine. I need the outdoors. I need fresh air. I don't know how those who live up north do it. I go crazy when there is a cold week and I can't go outside for a little bit. This feeling has only gotten worse with kids, because I don't want to get them out in it.
However, this past weekend was great. Freezing in the morning, but warming up into the 40s and 50s. The whole family was able to get our and I was able to run three days in a row, including my 15K.
Yesterdays 15K helped me get out of my funk. All last week I was not really excited about the race. I just didn't feel that pre race excitment. I don't know if it was because I knew I would have a new PR. Or, if I was down because I knew my family wouldn't be there to support me. Or, if the recent weather and lack of training was bothering me. I don't know what it was, but I just wasn't feeling it.
However, after such a great run, I feel like I have shaken the funk and got my groove back. I felt alive again after my run. Finally.
My great run has inspired me to think about my original goal of trying to run my first marathon in May. I even spent time figuring out a training plan. My thought is to try and follow the new plan, and if I feel good about it by April 1st, then I will register. If things don't work out then I will go back to my original plan. I feel like I have a much better idea of what my body can do now.
Here is to getting your grove back!
Yay for getting your groove back! The temps will bounce back soon! The worst is trying to get kids all bundled up to go out! I feel like I have had a huge workout by the time we're all ready!
ReplyDeleteHooray on getting out of the funk. January is always the worst month when its cold. Hang in There... Good Luck on your training!
ReplyDeleteI agree January is the worst month. I can't wait for spring!
ReplyDeleteGetting the kids ready to run in the winter is the worse part. Somedays it takes me as long to get everyone ready as it does to run.
