Snow & Challenges

Howdy to all the new people following me!

It snowed today in Texas!  After raining most of the night, around 11am this morning, it finally got cold enough to actually snow here, and it stuck.  The boys and I had a wonderful time out in it for a little bit (we really don't have clothes to wear in the snow.)  However, because of this flooding rain and beautiful snow, I was not able to get my 3 mile run in today.  (We don't have a treadmill or gym membership, tight budget.)

Around 4pm, the snow had let up, I though about going for a run for both my sanity and my family's (I'm nicer when I have gone for a run), but my husband didn't think it was the best idea.  He was probably right, because we got a lot of rain before the snow and I don't necessarily have clothes for running in the really cold.  (I know it isn't that cold to those who live up north, but I am a Texan, born and raised.  It's cold.)  I am hoping to get a run in tomorrow.

Onto the challenge.  With all the different blogger challenges out there and the two that I have joined, (Run for the Bling of It! and the Run 1000+++ with Tall Mom), I thought it would be time for me to set my own challenge for myself.  I have set 3 running challenges for the year, however to lose the baby weight from Thing 1 and Thing 2 (that is what I get for having three kids in 3.5 years, never really lost all the baby weight from the first two pregnancies), I need to do more than just run.

The first thing I need to do is eat better.  So my first challenge to myself is to actually keep a food journal.  I have tried to do this so many times before.  I usually do really good writing breakfast down.  I do o.k. with lunch, but dinner never happens.  I am going to start recording what I eat on my blog for at least 30 days.  (My first 30 day challenge of 2011.)  Now that at least one other person knows what I am eating, I better make wise choices.

My second challenge to myself, is to do at least 10 minutes of core work a day for the rest of the year.  Three kids in 3.5 years = no abdominal strength.  I need to change that.

It is now in writing, so I better live up to the challenge.  Besides, if I don't my husband now has free reign to call me on it, and I know he will.

Have you set any challenges for yourself?

  1. Wow, you are going big. I really wanted to be part of the tall mom challenge, but I think it is a bit out of reach and I need a confidence booster. I chose 500 miles and I think if I can do it, I'll feel really proud of myself. I am also doing CORE work. 1000 CORE things a week.

Good luck with the 10 minutes a day!

  2. Us New Englanders use Yak Tracks to get us through the winter...and lots of layers! I have started doing a food journal too. I am the same as you...I start off strong but fizzle out as the day goes on. I found an app on my phone so I can just punch it in. Good luck with your challenges...You can do it!!
