Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that last week the weather in North Texas was awful. We had sleet, thunder snow, ice, a lot of snow and cold, things that we do not know how to deal with. This wonderful weather left most people shut up in their house for 4 days.
That left me with a whole week of missed marathon training (I really think I need to convince my husband we need a treadmill.) My first run, after a whole week off, was rough. I felt almost like I was starting over and it was only a 4 mile run. The next day, I struggled to complete the 3 miles that I had time to do. Whole weeks off are not good for me.
I have been trying to following my training schedule, because the last thing that I want to do is get injured. Not only would that hurt my running, but it would really make it difficult to keep up with my three boys. It is really hard to keep up with them when I am hobbling around, especially when one of their favorite things to do is run around.
However, due to the crazy weather in Texas this year, I have decided to alter my plans. I am now just going to run when the weather is nice enough to get the boys out in, unless I am able to run alone. So it has to be above freezing to run with the boys and no ice if I am going to run by myself.
The last few days I have done that. Saturday was my 4 mile run. Sunday I ran 3 before church. This morning, I got up and ran before my husband left for the airport and ran 2 more miles. I know it is not a lot of miles, but it was what I had time for and at least I am getting to run.
I am going to attempt to follow my original training plan on the days that the weather meets the above criteria. Tomorrow I am going to try and get my 3 mile run in after Thing 3's 6 month checkup and before I have to pick Thing 1 up from preschool. I have to get a run in tomorrow, or else I won't get to run again until maybe Thursday, probably Friday. Right now there is a 100% chance of rain/snow.
Here is hoping my new plan gets me prepared!
Marathon training this time of year is particularly tough. Hope you find a way to work it all in!
ReplyDeleteMarathon training in the winter is always tough! I hope that the weather will cooperate for you this week! We had a treadmill before we moved....I LOVED IT! Now I miss it so much!
ReplyDeleteSorry the weather has not been cooperative! I missed two weeks early on in my training due to a possible injury and I was surprised at how quickly I was able to catch up to the training schedule. Just get in the runs when you can and you will be back on track in no time!
